This is simple. If some gay wants you to bake a cake, you just say, "i am against 'Your politics' so I refuse to serve you. Legal loophole has now been established, and not a single Democrat can complain. Legally, a person could create a segregated space by kicking out anyone they think is a Democrat, and since 90%+ of blacks are Democrats, you could make that claim. As long as you kept your mouth shut about it, since these "crimes" are thought crimes based on motive, if your motive is not on the banned motives/thoughts list, there is no rule that says otherwise.

The stupidity of this stuff just boggles my mind. What are we headed for here?

Owner of that restaurant should have used the moment to dig in, by serving Sanders with such care and comfort, kindness and dripping with sweetness, and then brought up the gay server at the end of the meal - "Did you enjoy your meal? Was it cooked to perfection? Was your server excellent? Well, just so you know, your server is gay. Your cook is from Guatemala. Your boss' policies are affecting these hard working people to the negative. I think that you should keep that in mind - these are people you are talking about, not simply sound bites or theory. I hope you enjoyed your meal and your service here. We are, unlike your boss, willing to go that extra mile, and treat people with kindness even for people we disagree with vehemently."

There. You made your political statement, you don't look the fool by taking the low road, and you don't give Trump even MORE ammunition to make your side look like spoiled brats.

Damn. That is a well-thought-out policy. Nicely put.

“Public accommodations laws vary from state to state (and city to city), but they generally bar businesses open to the public from refusing service to individuals based on certain protected characteristics,” Cole said, noting that they each decide which characteristics qualify.

“All protect against race discrimination, most protect against sex discrimination, some protect against sexual orientation discrimination, etc.”

So what about political leanings? As it turns out, “only three jurisdictions protect against discriminatory refusals of service based on political affiliation or opinion,” Cole said, but one of them is Washington, D.C. (The others are Seattle and the Virgin Islands.)

The Red Hen, the restaurant that booted Sanders, is in Virginia, but if any establishments in D.C. take a cue from them, they could be held in violation of D.C. Code Section 2-1402.31, which bars discriminatory actions against people in whole or in part due to characteristics including race, religion, nationality, sex, age, and more, including political affiliation. Violations can result in punishments including court-ordered corrective action or monetary penalties.
