[The following is one of many anonymous notes and letters found at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.]

Understand

That if the time comes

When you must kill

It will destroy you

For all of this life.

This is the horrible legacy

of glorifying war

Which no one escapes

Who is the deadliest

Adversary;

The soldier

The truth

or the monument?

I can't warm up to this one... it seems like this belittles their effort and life since there isn't a choice but war.. .turns their effort into a trivia quiz
