I was reading a thread by British people about what they should know when they travel to America. One guy had this to say after living in LA for a while -

Don't think the police are there to help you, or anyone. The police are like a second gang that people are more afraid of than actual gangs.

At least the criminal is easy to understand and I can legally use force on him if he gets in my house.

someone i know saw a guy slam into a parked car, get t-boned, get out and steal another car and drive off today. he told a cop a block away but the cop was too busy eating breakfast. meanwhile, i know a cop who does cocaine all weekend every weekend. i dont know how they get so much on their salary and i dont want to know.

Not knowing makes it easier to deal with all the troubles of the world, but makes it hard to actually fix the issues that arise.

...Not that I'm doing much (read: anything) to make the world a better place myself, mind.
