The day my echo dot responded to a conversation I was having with my kids in another room, that was the day it was unplugged and put away.

Comcast does something similar with the WiFi routers they hand out, I think.

I don't know the exact details: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/disable-xfinity-wifi-home-hotspot

But I will say if the ISP who supplies access is using a rented device to supply access on a separate channel it's a bit different than a company who is not supplying access opening a gateway to allow other people's products to leach off of your wifi for their "tracking purposes" (especially if you have to pay for data).

Luckily I don't have any such devices. I'm lonely, but don't need Alexa to laugh at the fact ;)

No worries for me, I don't have the amazon app on my phone, Amazon Echo devices, Ring Security Cams, outdoor lights, motion sensors.
