It literally is malware like the old bonsai buddy; very aggressive installation any time you invite somebody who doesn't use it.
Use some open source solution like jitsi instead. It doesn't even need to be installed since it runs in browser, and the audio and video quality is good. Of course it doesn't have a marketing department behind it, so that's why it doesn't get any adoption.

Zoom is just another cobbled together bunch of code that used Facebook API's and lots of other non-secure snippets that they now have to patch. It sounds like it's the online meeting version of Windows. It will never be fully patched.
