I had a co-worker who used to work as an engineer in the nuclear program, and you'd be shocked at how outdated so much of the technology is in those missiles. One thing I remember him pointing out is that many systems are powered by very old battery technology still, so during random inspections they would find that the batteries had degraded into dust in some of the missiles. Kind of scary.

On the other hand that technology is simple enough for someone to understand it completely and find problems. With current tech there's so much complexity it's impossible to make sure there's no backdoors or bugs.
