I used to know a guy that could literally add a USB port to a PS2 to use for homebrew games. He even wrote a book about it. Mixing in a tiny chip during the fabrication process would be super easy, especially if you only do it on select boards when you know who they are being shipped to. Ya know, bypass random checks where 99% of boards do not have the chip. It is truly a terrible idea to have a competing country manufacturing your hardware
