That won't work. Companies aren't interested in innovation. They're interested in profit

They're also interested in customers actually using their product. If it gets to the point where the only choice is one company or not at all, people will choose not at all. That's why the few US car companies needed a bailout: they refused to recognize the customer and went full retard on "muh profits."
