Sites that allow YouTube videos to be converted into an MP3 file and illegally downloaded to someone’s phone or computer are attracting millions of visitors, with estimates suggesting that a third of 16-24-year-olds in the UK have ripped music from the Google-owned platform.

Is this even illegal? Maybe it is in the UK? Or is this just bad, simplistic tech journalism?

I've googled that question before, and most articles aren't forthcoming with a simple answer. I think it's legal, but wouldn't be surprised to find it arbitrarily declared illegal at some point soon.

The author's slant on the issue seems clear, so I'm not surprised by the wording.
