its nice and all but not everyone can install customOS on androids, its so complex and buggy for some. also way too new in the android community, we have yet to test it on bigger wider audience.

At the moment it is too much of a hassle for me to want to mess around with it. I would be interested in knowing how it ends up working out for /u/OeeThaGreat though.

I will make a post about the experience once the phone arrives in a few weeks.

I have done a lot of research into the process, and which phones LineageOS is compatible with. Most of the apps I use are already from Fdroid, and the 3-4 that aren't open source are mostly just me being lazy or incompatibile with my current phone.

I think the one app that will be the hardest for me to let go of is Wunderground. Most of the open source weather apps I have tried are either inaccurate or they failed to find my small town location.

There is some good info in there to ditch most Google products. Trying out NewPipe right now, so far so good. I never knew about Uptodown for getting apps like discord and whatsapp.

I'd make the switch, but the Galaxy S8 line isn't officially supported by Lineage :(

I've fiddled around a little bit mainly to remove stuff that was using up a lot of resources, but I don't want to deal with doing an entire OS/program switch.

That's reasonable, it can be quite the undertaking.

I have been doing the same thing with my phones for years now, which is why I have decided to try LineageOS. Plus, it should be a fun hobby. Hahaha

I prefer MinTube over Newpipe. I have had issues with Newpipe on one of my older phones, and I like how MinTube opens the video in a collapsible window.

Last night I ordered a Samsung A7 2017 so I can install LineageOS and degoogle my phone. I have planning on doing it for a couple years now and my current phone is finally taking a shit so I figured now is the best time to finally commit to removing all things Google.
