This is just one of many scientific areas that China, and others, are going to fly past the west.

Historically the Chinese have lagged behind the west in terms of invention and innovation. There are a number of reasons for that, but they are complex social/environmental causes. There was no physical or racial limits on them. Those causes are now fading.

New ability and incentive pushes the Chinese to invest more in the future, while the west is coasting on past success, or even diminishing.
This is mostly good news. It sucks that the west is stagnating, but that is an expected consequence of decadence.
With the far East stepping up to continue human advancement, it may help us delay or avoid our fall. Elon can't do it all alone.

tldr: Learn to speak Mandarin, it will be an asset in the future.

You liked watching Firefly didn't you?

I died a little the day it was canceled.
I still wince at the memory. Bitter-sweet.

at least we got serenity... I picked it up for 5 bucks at Canadian Tire of all places... worth every penny to own. Your post reminds me a lot of the mandarin curse words and instructions in Firefly. Heck even in the Tom Cruise movie Edge of Tomorrow had that outlook on technology

They may well beat the Europeans who seem hell-bent on destroying themselves BUT they will NOT beat the USA ... Google "Lockheed Martin fusion reactor breakthrough" and see the handwriting on the wall.

Europe made the Wendelstein 7X and that's a more promising design that a tokamak.
