Because people are too dumb to right-click and select 'view image in another tab'?

And how does a person 'steal' a digital copy? Did they hack the site and remove the original?
I think the article might be confusing the words 'steal' and 'copy'.
They're not the same thing.

If you're viewing the image in another tab from the google image results, it doesn't give you full res.

There is an extension called Imagus on Chrome and Firefox that is a nice workaround though, and it has pretty nice features for hundreds of other sites too. I still resent needing one more extension just to do something extremely basic that should be a given on any browser/site though.

I read elsewhere that this is part of settling a lawsuit with some image host (I forget which)

Getty, the one with all the stock photos. How bad was the lawsuit to warrant removing the only feature that makes their image search useful? That's my question.
