says it's to prevent battery issues

Seems like soldering the batteries into the devices is bad for the consumer. Who would have ever thought that?

I have something kind of similar with my Android. You can remove the battery, but they made it as difficult as possible and put a load of warnings on it about never removing it. They just do everything they can to make you buy the newer version.

Even if this explanation is correct, and it's a big if, why has this not surfaced before now? Especially when they were dealing with a lawsuit not long ago over something very similar involving the battery life of iPhones? To me this reeks of damage control.

I am not shocked.
If you type the words 'designed obsolescence' into google, it auto-suggests 'Apple' as the next word.
No joke.

this is beyond crazy.. They can literally just make your device shitty at any time.
