I remember reading about the US having to rewrite some software for one of the big ships (carrier maybe) after their intelligence overheard the Russians talking about how they could shut down the ship at will, remotely. There was also the case when a carrier was driving in circles for days because their outdated Windows NT had crashed and they had to fly in a Microsoft technician. I'll have too look up the reference though.
