The new Witcher series is brilliant(5 episodes in).

I was a big fan of the games and ended up picking up the translated books and loved them even more. I held off on getting any sort of hype up for the Netflix series based on Henry Cavill being the lead as Geralt and to a lesser degree, some pretty strong indications it would be infested with modern feminist political propaganda. I was very wrong on the first and just wrong on the second. Firstly Henry Cavill pretty much nails the part. Maybe it's because he's not that good of an actor and Geralt is emotionally stunted and easy to play, but it just works. Pretty much the only thing I can fault about his role so far is that his nose looks weird and now I've noticed, I can't unsee it. The actress who plays Yennefer is also brilliant and after I got used to her not looking like she did in Witcher 3, I will now imagine Yennefer looking like her when I read the books. The jury is still out on the girl playing Ciri, mainly only because she looks way too old to me but she's doing a good job too. Not a fan of Triss with no red hair, but it's whatever.

The very first scene after the monster fighting intro will most likely rest your mind on any sort of agenda being shoved down your throat. Do not watch with any prudes or if you are one yourself as there are tits and arse everywhere so far. All this might change for the second run but most series go downhill after a season or two. Anyway well worth the watch and get it in the highest resolution you can, because it well shot too. Oh and it is based on the books so don't expect to get anything if you have only played the games and won't get to read the books before you watch. Just look it as an origin story for the games and you can't go wrong.

If anyone needs help finding the books, just tell me the format you need and I'll point you in the right direction.

So much exposition paired with clunkly dialogue, and some just plain odd creative choices. I really wanted to like the series and promised myself I'd give it a good go but didn't even make to the end of the 2nd eps. I literally could not have cared less about any of the characters. Maybe if I'd hung on longer it would have changed for me, but I couldn't do it.

For those of you enjoying it then I'm happy for you. Good TV is where you find it.

See that's interesting because it took me a long, long while to like the characters in the Witcher world.

Ultimately I think the series will live or die based more on people coming from your perspective than mine, and if it's failing there, then it might not be a long run.

Well I saw something that claimed the nbr of viewers is through the roof, in which case they are probably coming from your perspective. So that's a good thing.

I also read something that claimed it cost 10mil per episode to make. Assuming that's true it hard to believe the show will be sustainable unless it is a huge hit. Frankly it didn't look that polished ie. expensive to me but what do I know about making a show.
