It's fucking boring 90% of the time. Why watch 3 back to back games for 12 hours to get 15 minutes of legit play (unless you have a lot of money on these games) when you can catch the last 10 minutes and watch highlights later?
The political shit took it from boring to annoying, people watch the game to relax and get away from all of that shit so when you jam it down their throats they opt for other forms of entertainment.
Couple that with the dramatic decline of the going to game experience (tickets for many teams are insanely expensive, so are the concessions, and every year the venues have new rules to reduce fun and separate you from your hard earned money).
