It looks like I'll finish in top 10, and I'll be playing some more tonight, but I think top 4 is going to be out of the question at this point.

When the deadline is over I'll upload the ROM and post it here if anyone wants to try playing it.

I've never heard of this. You are competing in a Super Mario Brothers 3 contest?

Yeah, it's a month long speedrunning contest. The world record holder in a number of SMB3 categories put together a rom hack. The top 4 times will be streamed alongside each other in a "race", and the winner gets $100. I just decided to do it because I was burnt out on playing SMB1.

PMYA is our resident speedrunner. There's a whole community (i forget the name) that do weekly contests where hundreds of people replay the classics. It's pretty neat.

There are tons of them. Popular games like Zelda, Super Metroid etc. have their own events and stuff just for those games, but there are other more broad groups that cycle through games. There's one called Obscure Speedruns Club that votes on an unpopular game to play each month, Speedruns Weekly, individual races organised by random players, all sorts of shit.

I prefer just doing my own thing and picking out random NES games that I like, but recently I've been testing out Mega Man, SMB etc. because it'd be nice to have "a game" that I can run in events.
