He's actually improved quite a bit since the beginning. I think I remember reading that he's been going to speech therapy lately, and it's been paying off.
Initially I found him a bit difficult to understand but after a few days of watching/listening to him I started to notice less and less.
Of course the whale(rail) gun episode is an exception.
