I think that many politicians view the erosion of constitutionally protected rights as a government pastime. Very few on either side are willingly to stand against it consistently (Amash and Massie are the only two, who stay pretty consistent, that I can think of).

"Security theater" as a way to erode things like the 4th Amendment. That pesky right has stopped the government from doing so many things that they don't want it in place anymore.
And if you think that's bad, you should try being near the country's border some time. You have no rights. At all.
