The potential for use in coatings is substantial. Why not work on a mono-layer shield coating that's tough as hell? By the end of the century we might have the basis for a space worthy starship protective layer that guides EM fields around it and helps repel some small matter that otherwise would punch microholes in the hull.

Earlier I was pondering the existence of nanoscopic chain mail made out of these things, but I'm guessing the rings aren't very 'tough' or stable compared to standard forms of carbon.
