Literally everyone knows that you don't actually have to eat more than you need to survive. You can't get out of elementary school without knowing this. Calories in > calories out = weight gain. It's basic knowledge every citizen knows.

You presume better results from education than might be warranted.

A lot of people do not make that simply logical connection between the facts you mention and their own health and mortality. They know it all, but do not do the math.

Which is, as I said previously, that they don’t care. It’s nothing nefarious about some company or engineering. They just don’t care.

well, with fully functioning adults, obviously they have their own freedom of choice and responsibility for their actions.

And a toddler does not, not really.

where is the dividing line for a person having actual adult responsibility

I think of those photos of obese children. even obese preschoolers. Where is their responsibility?

It doesn't matter how the question is phrase or what perspective you want to look at it from. It comes down to choice, caring. And people don't care.
