My guess is excessive javascript, possibly a cryptocurrency miner.

That was my first thought as well, do you experience the same? (or do you know better than to click the dodgy link?)

Well, I'm familiar with the topic of the article, so I didn't click. I do run a javascript whitelist extension though, so generally I don't worry too much about those everyday random links.

Its another story if its a weird link given specifically to me though. I've never clicked a link from a PM. Seems like a good way to get hacked or doxed.
