I'm thorn about this so was wondering if anyone has played it yet. I usually like paradox games but after stellaris and especially after butchering my dearly beloved HOI franchise I am very doubtfull.

I've seen some videos of it, and it looks fairly good. The idea of customized battle groups, along with progressively bigger and better things later as you go through the three phases is neat. I haven't played it though.

It's an RTS that auto-gathers your resources and with no bases to build, so all you manage are the combat units. You can customize your battle groups to your liking, within limits, so you can go with more or less artillery in your armored column, for instance.

The 5v5 and bigger battles look like disorganized messes if the team isn't actively working together throughout. But if you can organize properly, you can probably do really well if your opponents aren't doing the same. I can't comment on the amount of variety from battle group to battle groups. I know there are 3(?) nations you can play as, UK, USA, Germany, and I know there is some variety inside each individual nation (Germans, for instance, have both an SS battlegroup that has an infantry focus and a Panzer battlegroup that has an armor focus), and that there is a fair amount of variety between specific units in a battle group (for instance, a recon team with a simple jeep + .50 Cal or with an armored vehicle with some anti-tank capabilities), so you can probably find something in a role that suits your taste.

My impression of balance is that good play can see any battlegroup eventually win, as long as your bases are covered. Lacking any air power at all will let your opponent just bomb you at will, which is no good, obviously. Lacking anti-tank means you just can't do anything about armor. And so on. But there seem to be different options to deal with various threats, depending on the battlegroup. Infantry might have access to anti-tank guns, which armored groups might have tank destroyers. Airborne will have fighters of their own to deal with air threats, while a more balanced group might use some air and some ground-based AA fire; Et cetera. Again, it's a matter of covering your bases before you actually go into the fight itself.

Seems to be a solid PVP strategy game, so I think it's worth a close look, at least, if RTS games are something you're into.
