So I see. However that article also states what I said about the 750w psu. And goes onto say that the only cpu+gpu combo that would need 1000w would be paired with a thread ripper. Which starts pricing out the majority of gamers and enthusiasts.

An 80+ power supply could be strained since with the CPU, RAM and drives, the machine will suck over 600 watts at peak times. I like to play it safe with power supplies. 800 watt 80+ gold is a minimum. 1000 watts will never be strained with this setup.

I haven't heard anything that extreme. NVIDIA only reccomends a 750 watt and thats likely overkill but leaves enough room for a high end CPU.
IIRC 300-350 was the upper limit of their draw.
