I haven't heard anything that extreme. NVIDIA only reccomends a 750 watt and thats likely overkill but leaves enough room for a high end CPU.

GeForce RTX 3080 was measured at 523 watts at load.

So I see. However that article also states what I said about the 750w psu. And goes onto say that the only cpu+gpu combo that would need 1000w would be paired with a thread ripper. Which starts pricing out the majority of gamers and enthusiasts.

You'd best also have ~1000 watt power supply. Those suckers pull over 500 watts at times.
