There's been a lot of disinformation out there, but that's quite a stretch.

To be fair, I have never been to Ukraine so I highly doubt it is actually a country

I've been to Canada, but how can I know that it's there when I'm not in Canada?

canada is just a psychotrip once you cross the border. it's literally just wasteland. they show you images to make you think you liked going to canada.

Hard to believe these kind of hoaxes exist with all those academic fact-checking Trump supporter skeptics out there.

I feel like isolating a few, easily disproved claims that were anonymously posted online is probably a more insidious mechanism to compel others to believe that only approved entities have a monopoly on the truth. I find it hard to believe any claims being made about the current situation and I think that is the goal. A low signal to noise ratio makes the reality of the situation more difficult to discern. Take for instance, the browser plugin Noiszy. It creates meaningless web traffic data to obfuscate one's actual digital footprint. In the modern age of mass information accessibility, the only way to hide the truth is to hide it in plain site by creating so much noise data, that any actual data is hidden as if it were a needle in a hay stack.
