To me, it seems to be a mistake by some jumpy Sam site operator. With tensions and recent attacks, I can see a scenario in which the large jet liner was mistaken for a bomber.
Obviously there should be some sort of system in place to prevent this. But this scenario seems far more likely than an intentional attack. I just dont see what they would have to gain from that.

It doesn't clarify if they mean "oopsie we forgot this big button was tied to a missile launcher that targets commercial airliners automatically" vs "the Iranian government did not initiate this attack intentionally and it may have been a rogue group". Seems like that part should have been expanded upon.
