Trump doesn't "adore" ondernemers, he is an ondernemer. So everyone else, including the truth, is competition to him...
I think you are mistaken Trumps rash, recklessness and not thought trough implementations of measures in the last week with actual "Leadership". Leaders can reach across the isle, unite, see common sense, learn, diplomacy, manipulate, persuade and then make a good descision. Trump is nothing but a reckless, populist, polarizing shitstorm with a Twitter account whom "doesn't think further then his nose is long". (dutch saying about being short sighted)
I didn't vote for Rutte myself but I do think he is a way better leader then Trump. As we have a totally different political arena in the NL (multiparty cabinet) and in the EU (federal like) it is pretty hard to compare them anyway. Rutte is charismatic, gets people talking together, analistic and gets to solutions. Calling Trump a good leader after last week is nothing short of a joke.
Don't forget in the eyes of Russia and US; the Netherlands is a small country. Rutte did well to keep clear heads, preserve the peace, unite the struck countries, call for and head a thurough investigation and call for embargo's to tighten. (A much more solid reaction then, lets say invading 2 countries "cause 9/11" - Bush JR) Not that the NL could actually use force against Russia anyway. But we did export a LOT of food to their marketNow only a few weeks after the reports have proven it was in fact a Russian BUK system that shot down the civilian MH-17 airliner, with more then 300 men, women and children aboard, Trump is talking about losening embargoes...... (not like Russia hasn't backed down in UKR either)
Effectively the USA is sending this message to the Russians: It doesnt matter what you do, we will reset relations every 4 - 8 years anyway. Meanwhile Putin pockets another few provinces/states every term, laughing his ass off. Main difference: USA politics thinks in 4 years, Putin thinks in Decades, Trump thinks in minutes......
Rutte's recent outings about "immigrants" over the last months are mainly do to the upcoming elections and trying to get votes from or prevent voters from leaving for Geert Wilders his right wing populist PVV. VVD (Rutte's party) is a Liberal (Not the US, "feminist liberal" But more in the essence of the word), centre right party coming up for entrepeneurs btw. It is very hard to compare our parties with US parties. Dutch politics is much more nuanced and has many, many parties
Wtf is up with the USA right and their radical switch of view about Russia anyway? Is there no more commie hate?

I mean that he loves making deals, and consequently loves people that also love making deals. Other ondernemers aren't just competitors; they are also suppliers, customers, and partners.

I can certainly see it, but I've also been seeing opinions that see method to the madness in how he's handled things. Like his meeting with Mexico's president; I feel his tweeting distilled what would have been weeks of diplomatic impasse into just 12 hours, and now we can get on with hammering out an actual agreement.

Fair enough, forgot about that.

I disagree. If we intend to avoid WW3, then eventually we will need to get around to peace talks. Presumably an agreement to lift sanctions would be part of that. I feel like the cycling of US presidents helps because I feel like Obama would just continue with the status quo indefinitely, possibly beyond the point of backing Putin too far into a corner.

Yeah that's the impression I was getting. Feels like how Jeb! would have approached immigration; not much conviction.

I don't think Americans have had any strong opinions about Russia since the fall of the Iron Curtain, I think.
Is there no more commie hate?
Kinda; but communism moved out of Russia. Now it mostly resides in China and the far-left fringes of Western politics.
Trump seems to adore ondernemers, which doesn't seem to fit the wait-and-see approach your PM appears to be taking.
He might like Rutte's current stance on refugees, though it seems kinda forced.
Edit: Very forced; I'm not seeing other signs of bold leadership from him.
