They found out that they wouldn't get a free life handed to them and that they would not only have to work if they got in, they'd have to prove that they had a legitimate reason to be allowed in when they didn't follow the proper procedures. In other words, the dystopian paradise promised by Democrats didn't happen for them and now they're butthurt and have to run home.

All that support (including paying for their cell phones, meals, shelter, and rides along the way) just went up in smoke. I'll wager a lot of them will die on the way back. They should have taken Mexico's offer for residency and jobs and help.

As a result, there will be far fewer, if any, migrant caravans in the near future. There'd be even less if the further right individuals who just wanted them shot down had gotten their way (which, I get their perspective not that they want them killed but they want active incentive for people to not do this again).

When you feed strays, they eventually move in. It's a cliche for a reason.

That's the analogy I used to describe the situation. My friends know my affinity for rescues and they were surprised at that. I said when we rescue animals we spay or neuter then so they don't have babies, since there are already too many strays (people) here.

With these migrants, it's worse. This 100% shows what everyone knew from the start but just saying it was "REEEE"-worthy:

  1. They had absolutely no intention of contributing to society in any way whatsoever.
  2. They had every intention of abusing the country and citizenry for everything they could manage.
  3. They had no intention of ever following any laws in the host country.

At best, the direct comparison is that these migrants are no better than animals.

And people turn 5 shades of purple and red in the face when I say "Screw 'em. Close the border and let them make their own country better." It's not about helping people who have nothing. If that were the case, we'd have absolutely no homeless and we'd take care of our veterans before letting others in. It's about being fair and "grown-up" and expecting and demanding that people do the same.

In a single word: responsibility. Something that the left (and especially the radical left) absolutely hate. They will blame literally everyone else for their problems. And these caravans are a perfect example of that.

Plus it gives them votes so...

And there you have it. The left's motivation distilled into one short sentence.

I disagree but don't see the sense on beating a dead horse since we've already established we can't/won't change each other's mind.
