I would be less bothered by this if forced labor was more directly administered by government, which is supposed to have a social conscience, rather than than private corporations, which in their single-minded pursuit of profit are guaranteed not to.

There are times where they can work and times where they are forced to work. See the 13th Amendment for reference on this.
