Author has zero understanding of economics, o just wrote to create hysteria, make politicals points.

Writes article about how tariffs on steel from MEXICO will cost jobs.

Claims these 400,000 lost jobs thing, from a report by a free-trade consulting company that EXCLUDES tariffs on Canada and Mexico.

Everyone knows trade wars, in the long run, are bad for business. The idea is to take short term losses in order to get long term gains.

Bad for some businesses. There is a reason farmers were protesting NAFTA and WTO in 1996, and it had nothing to do with what was best for the country or citizens longterm.

Economics isn't about picking winners and losers, and you're right that the economic theory of all of this is very straightforward. But politics--influenced by lobbyists from the wealthy and connected--come in and try to influence things for their own gain to the detriment of others. And then we have those in academia, the media, think tanks, etc willing to parrot whatever benefits the elite.
