And what are you finding so reconcillatory about Obama's inaugural address?

I actually doubt you took the effort to listen to his speech.

We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of short-cuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted - for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things - some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.

Within the first few minutes

inb4 but but but: it's gestures and symbolic yes.

Also notice how often Obama says "we" versus Donny's many used "I's" over the entire speech

edit:

So let us mark this day with remembrance, of who we are and how far we have traveled. In the year of America's birth, in the coldest of months, a small band of patriots huddled by dying campfires on the shores of an icy river. The capital was abandoned. The enemy was advancing. The snow was stained with blood. At a moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people:

"Let it be told to the future world...that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive...that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]."

America. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

as an ending to his speech

I was at about a third by that point, so I'd seen the first part you typed. And I'm seeing three types of declarations: common sense bare-minimum promises that never came to pass (like infrastructure), firmly solid ideals that he actively worked against (such as anti-terrorism sentiments and then going on to fund ISIL), and lawyer-speak for "we're going full SJW" which he delivered on in spades.

the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

This would be one of those "we're going SJW" examples. The freedom of scripture are not something I'd expect a secular individual to recognize as such and is pretty unrelated to Freedom in the American sense, SJWs implement a completely warped idea of equality, and trying to shoehorn "pursuit of happiness" into it... yeah, no. It is more apt to say we are promised Joy in the opposite.
The overall effect comes across as "How Do You Do, Fellow Christians?"

And I'm sorry that you typed out the last part of his speech, because I all I get are more empty platitudes.

Trump's speech comes across as "screw all these douchebags sitting in the front row". It is unifying in that it promises a reckoning against Congress, federal agencies, and countries that have screwed us over for decades. Only a few tens of thousands of those are Americans, vs the other 350 million of us. And he delivers on making them reeee every single day.

So you didn't listen/read the whole text (suprise, surprise) and after the first paragraph you zone out and start to judge Ubummer's policies and performance..... yeah that's really contributing to our discussion and not biased at all....

Obama's speech is full of gestures of reconciliation no matter how you try to twist/turn it, even if they are only symbolic or in Lawyurtalk it's in the goddamn text...

"comes across as" yeah have you actually taken the time to fully watch this one? His speech is NOT calling for goddamn unity with the general American population at any point, Even W agreed. Trump just rehashed his campaign speeches and only addresses his supporters. The fact that it appeals to you makes my point even clearer..... Apart from your statement being full of biased bullshit, it is a typical "The_Donald" reply.... Donnie's speech is not in the faintest a call for unity, not even if you drown it in your biased sauce. Like his campaign rhetoric it only pushes his polarization politics.

Wait wut, this is SJW talk? Really?? , Really???, Reeeeeeeaaaaalllllyyyyyyyy????? This is a goddamn clear reference to the second paragraph of the declaration of fucking independence. Your "reasoning" I really can't even ...... seriously i can't

Me is starting to finally realize you are way, way off the tracks and i'm mainly wasting my time trying to have reasonable discussions with you.ME_IRL
