There's something that gets ignored in this story. For decades now China has been charging a 25% tariff on American automobiles while we've placed a 2.5% tariff on theirs. It's like this across most markets. This "trade war" Donald Trump supposedly started is b/c he's raising less than a percent here and there making an unfair deal literally a hair less unfair. The truth is our congress and presidents have been selling out our country for decades destroying the American Dream and people ignored it b/c it's easy to forget when the 24 hour news cycle feeds you fresh outrage constantly. We are a corporate owned country.

We don't fight wars to win them anymore. We fight for perpetual war so stockholders in companies like Haliburton get richer and buy our politicians. I'm 35 years old and my country has been in some form of war for more than half my life. If you count North Korea then we've never been at actual peace in my lifetime. While everyone's screaming about this guy or that guy we've ignored the corporate lobbyists that have owned all presidents and politicians in recent decades. Trump is dangerous b/c he doesn't need their money and they know it.

I'll never regret my vote for him. The idea of 4 out of our last 5 presidents being named either Bush or Clinton is simply intolerable to me. It's unamerican as hell and a throwback to the monarchies we cast off. Our nation is trapped in an Orwellian nightmare it can't seem to wake up from. No one ever gets outraged about the things we should these days. War is everyday life and finding the next cop to be angry with is more important to the msm than actual journalism. Outrage sells ads.

So.... raising tariffs a little to try to offset some of the imbalances in other tariffs and trade is... a trade war? They'd swallow their teeth if we slapped 100+% tariffs or just sent shipments back until they decided to play fair. Never forget that we also don't have to be in trade agreements at all.
