This closes a conflict in the interface between federal/state law that allowed companies without facilities in the customer's state to forgo charging sales tax. This will most notably have and effect on major corporations like Amazon, who have distributing warehouses in roughly 60% of US states.

I think this is a good thing for many state economies, since local goods will be more competitive, resulting in a more decentralized and resilient national economy.
