I went there on a holiday a few years back. The grudge is still very much alive with the Cypriots and I'm guessing this is not gonna be solved soon. The Cypriot side is very western and rich while the Turkish part is thiird world like. We crossed the border in Nicosia and it all literally went to shit within 50 metres. This could be a major factor in uniting, then again the Turks are a fucking crazy proud people that will not stand down easily, especially while Erdogan is boss.
This for example is what you see when you drive to the divided capital Nicosia on the Cyprus side of the border.

Maybe Cyprus will finally get their land back that Turkey has been holding onto for over 40 years as a future chip in the game.
