It's often said a that a great group is greater than the sum of it's parts; I get this with Zeppelin. Fleetwood Mac and The Beetles.

The problem I haave with Toto is that they are less than the sum of their parts; all extremely accomplished session musicicians who managed to turn out turgid, rather plodding tunes.

Their songs, eg Africa, are almost memes but because they are so unremarkable. It's a nice humalong but I can't understand how you could be moved by it?

Isn't that what is so great about music? So much to choose from and so many artists getting the opportunity to put their emotions out there. I think there is no bad music (Gansta cRap isn't music so is eliminated from my viewpoint). There are some songs I enjoy that are decidedly without much talent, insightfulness, or relatable social import. But I like them. I don't require to know why they appeal to me, they just do. That's my opinion.
