From what I remember reading in an actual book:
apparently after capturing the german post on D-Day the german soldiers were asked why they hadn't fired at him, and they replied "we simply thought he lost his mind". His superior ordered he play the bag pipes loud and strong to a particular tune, and he marched left and right playing across the beach.
