A man who had a rough childhood in post-war Germany travels to America to pursue his dream of being a pilot and ends up a P.O.W in Laos after being shot down during a bombing raid. Years later he travels back there to tell his tale and visit the places where he almost died.

I watched this by myself and it really paints a detailed picture of things he and others endured. There are parts he seems to gloss over such as the torture that was inflicted on him but that's more than understandable given he was likely in those very same spots all those years ago. If anything it only adds to the impact. In a place where even the environment is a formidable enemy, then it's no wonder so few made it out to tell their stories.

The version I watched from youtube had poor picture quality but it didn't matter much. If you can handle something where there isn't a lot of action going on, then give this a look.

I saw this a while back and after I had seen Rescue Dawn which is the movie version, minus all the back story on Dieter, also by Herzog.
I liked the doc over the movie.

Incredible story.

Thanks for the film mention. I haven't seen it and I think I'll enjoy it more knowing the true story.
