The movie is quite dark and they make no mention of romance throughout except for his inability to preserve his first victim, which troubles him til the end. I imagine the time he spent in solitude was mostly fast forwarded (who'd watch a man alone for so long) but they play on that... I'd suggest you watch the movie first. No movie is as good as their novel usually but this decent and eerie.

I am simultaneously surprised, excited, and disappointed by this. I had not heard about this being made into a move, and I would never have expected it.
I'm disappointed though because I can already see it has been greatly altered from the book. Most of the book takes place inside his head. He spends years alone with only his thoughts. Even when around people he never opens up to anyone or communicates in a meaningful way.
The character is also supposed to be very ugly. And while the topic of love is a part of the book, there is no romance, and the main character never knows or feels it.
I don't think it is even possible to make an accurate movie out of this book, and the trailer shows they did not.
Still might be interesting, but since I have read and enjoyed the book, I don't know if I could watch it without yelling at the screen.
I highly recommend the book though. And another by Patrick call 'Pigeon' which I liked even more.
