A person on the MXLinux forums said they were disappointed that the latest PIA client wouldn't work because of no systemd scripts so the developers made it work for them.

Basically the devs took the latest 1.1.1 client(huge improvement in the UI) and added SysVinit startup scripts so it would run without installing systemd. PIA client has needed systemd startup scripts since v.82. MX Linux/AntiX has about 100 pre-compiled packages like this that make it easy for programs to run on what is basically Debian 9 without systemd, which causes quite a few issues. Debian doesn't recommend PPA's like Ubuntu uses, so this is their answer. Maybe I'll post an article about MX Tools later. The main takeaway from this is that MxLinux is now challenging Mint as the most popular Linux distro and the above attitude is one of the reasons why. I think they did similar things back when they developed Mepis Linux but that never took off.
