When trying to lose weight you are often told to "just stop eating" or "eat less, you fat pig" without being told how you can help yourself do that.

First you will have to shrink your stomach, which will be the hardest phase. Some things that can help are these:

  • Reduce your plate size. What worked for me was somewhere between a tea saucer and a dinner plate. About 6-7 inches across. This is purely psychological but can help immensely.

  • Chew each mouthful at least ten times. This accomplishes two things. Firstly it breaks the food down more which helps the digestion of food into your body and secondly it allows more time for the food to start registering in your system so you will feel full often before you finish your meal instead of still feeling hungry. Often it can take up to 15 minutes for this "full" feeling to register.

  • If you do feel hungry later and you had all your meals, fill a jug/bottle with water and take 4-6 big swills to fill yourself up.

These few tips helped me lose 40 kg once. Maybe they can work for you too.

Great tips. I will add a couple that help me when I want to shed a few pounds.

  • I find that I'm more hungry if I eat small amounts throughout the whole day, than if I eat all my calories within a short window during the day. It's easier for me to not eat most of the day than it is to manage my calories all day. It seems counterintuitive, but apparently now that "intermittent fasting" is a thing, this is a common result for some people.

  • Sugar makes me more hungry sooner than protein, fat, or complex carbs. If I want something sweet, I make sure it's eaten with plenty of fiber to stay full longer.

  • I put greens in everything. Things like spinach and lettuce seem so insignificant, but they really help. Sometimes food cravings are cravings for nutrients rather than calories, and greens are extremely nutrient dense. Plus it raises the fiber-to-calorie ratio of nearly every meal, which means you'll stay more full on less food.

Yea I tried the 5-6 small meals a day thing and it didnt work for me either. I basically had one small main meal a day with meat, rice or pasta on that smaller plate and 3-4 pieces of fruit and a plate of vegetables as well. Stuckto that for 4-5 months and I was down 30kg the last 10 took as long again. I think aroud 100-105kg/220-230 pounds is perfect for me. Under that I was a bit too thin.
