Raccoons were once a popular pet and imported in large numbers. But some were later abandoned or fled their homes, and have since been a nuisance to farmers and residents.

A different issue, but similar enough I want to address it.

A main reason ferrets are sometimes illegal is due to perceived infestation, similar to hogs and snakes in mainland America and Hawaii. Pet ferrets are almost always sold neutered/spayed in the USA. This continued policy is why domestic US ferrets will never be a nuisance the way other flora and fauna have become.

I thought the video was entertaining.

Just saw it and I have to disagree.

Maybe Americans are better at de-treeing animals but I felt for that poor terrified creature after it fell 20+ feet and people were screaming at it.

The creature is fine... well, maybe it's been put down at this point, but it was in downtown Tokyo, it's seen it all.
