Why Are There Palm Trees in Los Angeles?

Urban trees do actually have jobs, besides just looking nice: they provide shade, reduce heat, clean the air, some prevent erosion, and some produce an edible or useful material. Palms in Los Angeles do not do any of this.

So they're superficial. Like the people of LA. How fitting.
