In his time, President Warren G. Harding was well known for utilizing the English language in some rather unusual ways… and he was a former newspaper editor. Usually, his pronouncements were just a bit unconventional, such as, “we must prosper America first” or “Despite all the deprecation I cannot bring myself to accept the notion that the inter-relation among our men and women has departed.” But occasionally he would come up with statements like, “Progression is not proclamation nor palaver. It is not pretense nor play on prejudice. It is not the perturbation of a people, passion-wrought, nor a promise proposed.”
In one of his more lucid moments, he once commented, “Oftentimes… I don’t seem to grasp that I am President.”
