One day, when Mrs. Coolidge was to join her husband for a conference in Washington, she got into such a last-minute rush that she arrived at Continental Hall without her ticket. When she announced she was Mrs. Coolidge, the doorman looked blank.
”What’s your husband’s first name?” he asked.
”Calvin,” she said.
”What’s his business?” asked the doorman doubtfully.
”He’s Vice President.”
”Vice President of what?” he wanted to know. But he finally let her in.
