The ballot results bear witness to a national awakening and unanimity seldom seen in democratic countries. Over 85 % of the population voted: 368 208 voted in favour of and only 184 voted against the dissolution of the union. Women, who were not entitled to vote, got round the problem by gathering in an impressive 279 878 signatures in a petition calling for dissolution of the union, which was handed over to the president of the Storting on 22 August.
Holy hell, that's amazing.
