He is alive and the operation was a success.

I'm posting this in this sub, 'cause he's a fantastic guitarist. That Cynical Old Fart fella might have wanted me to post it elsewhere, but I wasn't sure where. I also expect there will be today's regularly scheduled article, but that's up to him. So, I figured I'd stuff it in here.

The very short article has the relevant information and quote, as well as a couple of links. The links near the bottom are to yesterday's articles, and the last one will whisk you away to my playguitar.gq site, where you can hear some pretty awesome tunes that have Betts taking a prominent role in the guitar work.

Betts is, sadly, often overlooked. He's pretty much always been 'the guitarist who's not Duane.' That's unfortunate, because his work is pretty good. His melodies are deceptively simple and he tends to stick to just four or five note runs - usually in the pentatonic major scale.

But, this simplicity belies the actual difficulty. It's hard to do those things without them sound, for lack of a better word, like playing scales by rote. He makes them melodic and emotional. He has brought a lot to the table and been a great asset to the guitar community.

If you can't tell, I'm pretty damned pleased that his operation was a success and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Great news!

Most importantly, he didn't marry Cher.
