LOL Yeah, he really wasn't as great as people seem to think. It doesn't help that the major music publication outlets keep calling him the greatest.
"Greatest Guitarist" should, in my opinion, be an objective measurement based on technical merit - and not based on subjective criteria such as "soul" or "passion."
Guitar is, to me, a technical endeavor. It's with that technical ability that one can create soul and passion, but that's not mandatory. I've seen soulful solos played by people who weren't very skilled. And, it's not about being complex - it's about being able to be complex. Sometimes, simplicity is an art of its own.
My crusade to topple Hendrix from the top of the charts is not going to have great success, but I'm sure having fun writing about it and discussing it!
