i had been aware the city started on the island for a while but i had no idea it would be the north bank that got built up first. i figured any significant roads would be leading south so the city would develop that way but it looks more like the south had the more developed farmland/hedges, i'm assuming the main area for aristocrats or at least the old farming families. yay learnding!

Super interesting.
I had no idea the original city was on The Ile de la Cite, or even what the name of the island was until I looked it up right now. Seems like a weird place to put a city, prone to flood risk perhaps? Although it would offer a natural defense barrier, which I'm sure what the intent was.
