That's why I started it in mid March in my basement. Should be ready in 6-7 weeks before the heat hits. I can't grow lettuce greens in the summer either and i'm close to the great lakes.

There are growers in south Georgia that are using lettuce as their winter crops.

I was going to start using alfalfa here. The groundhog that lives under my shed will be in paradise.

Should make a good cover crop. I asked about planting some cover crops but I think the three of us who maintain the garden at work were all tired of working in it by the fall.
